I need to get one thing out of the way. Technically, there’s no such thing as “toning.” Muscle tone has to do with passive muscular activity. But since that’s the science-based definition, and we’re not scientists, who cares? When I say “toned,” you know what I mean.
There are a few fitness clichés that I’m not fond of. “Something is better than nothing” can be pretty misleading. “You need a cheat day every once in a while” is usually a bad idea. “If you weren’t sore after your workout, you didn’t exercise hard enough” is AWFUL advice.
